Camp Director/Clinician: Joe Jahnigen

The Cincinnati Summer Marching Percussion Clinic  is led by Joe Jahnigen, an award winning marching percussion arranger and instructor who has been teaching in Cincinnati since 1998. Joe has been a percussion arranger and instructor for St. Xavier, Elder, Madeira, and Mt. Healthy High Schools. He has been winning multiple “Best Percussion” awards every year since his first job at Madeira High School. 

While at Elder, Joe was the creative director for the Indoor Drumline/Winter Percussion ensembles, which took First Place at the Tri-State Circuit Championships two years in a row.  Joe is a graduate of the prestigious University of Cincinnati College Conserva- tory of Music, a two year DCI veteran, and has been performing professionally for the past ten years.  Professional highlights include multiple national tours, performing at the Apsen Jazz Festival, a internationally renowned music festival, and the Lemon Pop Festival in Spain.  Most recently, Joe toured throughout Spain, France, Portugal, and Germany with a headlining band. Currently pursuing his Masters in Education at Xavier University, Joe has also been instructing at Mehas music since 1999 and maintains a high calibre of students.

Instructor: Rick Adams

Rick Adams teaches technology at Indian Hill Middle School in Cincinnati and is currently the OMEA Marching Band Percussion Caption Head. His degree is in Business from Florida State University where he served as percussion section leader and percussion coordinator for the Marching Chiefs. He has several years drum corps experience and was an instructor and tour director for Suncoast Sound and most recently assisted with the Canton Bluecoats. Rick also had the priviledge of being an original member of Disney's Future Corps. Rick has been a clinician in Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Washington State; performed with the Belleview Philharmonic in Seattle; and enjoyed several years adjudicating indoor and outdoor percussion in the mid-west. He resides in Madeira with his wife, Lori and his two sons, Trey and Ben.


Instructor: John Espy

John Espy is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, WV where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education with honors and certifications in both instrumental and vocal music PreK-Adult. As a member of the MU Marching Thunder, John served as percussion section leader for two marching seasons before becoming an instructor and arranger.  Mr. Espy has extensive experience in the drum corps idiom having performed with Capital Regiment from Columbus, OH and the twelve-time Drum Corps International (DCI) World Champion Concord Blue Devils from Concord, CA.  These experiences afforded Mr. Espy the distinct honor of studying with some of the best music educators in the world including Kate Tice, Christina Vanacore, Kevin Murphy, Scott Johnson, Mike Nevin, and Vinnie Angelo to name a few. Mr. Espy served as Percussion Director/Arranger, Visual Instructor, and Staff Coordinator at Cabell Midland High School located in Ona, WV.  During Mr. Espy's tenure at Cabell Midland, the percussion section captured an unprecedented 14 high percussion trophies and helped the marching band secure the Marshall University Tri-State Competition Championship, regarded as the West Virginia State Championship, in 2004.  During the 2007 competition season, the percussion section went undefeated in all competitions regardless of class.  Currently Mr. Espy is the Band Director at Mt. Healthy High School and most recently served as Percussion Instructor at Elder High School located in Cincinnati, OH and Percussion Director and Full Band Arranger at Norwood High School located in Cincinnati, OH.  


Instructor/Clinician: Andy Mersch

Andy Mersch is currently enrolled at Northern Kentucky University pursuing a degree in music education.  He is currently studying under Richard Jensen, the principal tympanist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as well as Scott Lang, a nationally renowned percussionist.  Andy is a DCI veteran who marched quads in the 2006 Glassmen drumline and was part of a 5 country European tour in that year.  Currently he teaches at Lloyd Memorial High School in Earlanger KY, as well as an instructing for the Highlands High School winter ensemble.  In 2007, Andy was the full time battery instructor for Conner High school, and has written extensively for many high schools in the tri-state area.

Andy will be showing off his fantastic quad chops this year as our quad clinician. His clinic last year was one of the highlights of the camp!

Instructor/Clinician: Matt Hawkins

Legendary local percussionist Matt Hawkins will be back this year to instruct a concert percussion clinic which will focus on timpini and other concert percussion instruments.


Clinician: Stan Ginn

Master Percussionist Stan Ginn will be instructing the hand drum and percussion clinic for GCMPC this year.

Stan Ginn is a drummer/percussionist in Cincinnati. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance form the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Since then he has studied privately with teachers in New York City, San Francisco, and Havana, Cuba. He has performed and/or recorded with a wide variety of artists including Louie Bellson, Mary Wilson and the Supremes, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Pan Ramajay, Dr. Loco's Rockin' Jalapeņo Band, Songo, Janet Pressley, Bailando Desnudo, Donna Summer, Monk, Phil Hawkins, the 4Track All-Stars, and many more. He can currently be seen with Phil Degreg's Brasilia, Dave Hawkins and Celtic Core, Bossa do Retro, and his own groups Pancaribbean and Mambo Diablo.
